15U Chandler Goes Undefeated To Win Spring Shootout Championship

The 15U Chandler team earned a clean sweep of victories over the weekend to win the WHS Spring Shootout Championship on April 26th in Waunakee, WI.  Chandler started the day with a victory over the WHS 15u Lee team (52-39) as their defensive pressure in the 2nd half opened up the game. Chandler then made quick work of the Green Bay Gunners (67-24) and finished off the day with a solid win vs. the Wisconsin Sonics.  Congratulations on a great day of basketball.  Go Hoops!

Notes: Though the Wisconsin Hoops Select squad lacks overall size, it does feature a strong backcourt led by JR Linshied … Linsheid earned honorable mention all-league honors in the Western Division of the Six Rivers Conference for Highland after averaging 10.6 points per game … He is a good long-distance shooter who can also get to the basket … Pecatonica’s Brooks Chandler figures to run the team at point guard after leading the Vikings in assists last winter … Wing Obi Iwuagwu provides Wisconsin Hoops Select with some athleticism and slashing ability … He averaged 8.8 ppg for the Abundant Life Christian/Country Day squad last season … Oregon’s Christian Bultman played on the freshmen squad for the Panthers, but the left-handed point guard figures to provide quality depth in the backcourt … Kole Kent figures to anchor the frontline for Wisconsin Hoops Select after averaging 7.5 ppg for Pecatonica … A solid rebounder and athletic post player, Kent is the tallest player on the squad at 6-foot-4 … Mount Horeb’s Michael Holum, who played on the JV squad for the Vikings, and Shullsburg’s Hunter Mayte, who averaged 5.6 ppg for the Miners, are also key players on the frontline.

Strengths (From Coach Chuck Chandler): “We will be very athletic, which should allow us to play a very up-tempo style on both offense and defense. It was a tight-knit group last year. The kids really developed friendships and this led to good chemistry. We cans hoot it accurately from three-point range and should be able to get it to the rim at all five offensive positions.”

Questions (From Coach Chuck Chandler): “We have three new players on the team. All of them are very talented and should make us better. There has only been one practice so far when all the players where there. Getting on the same page early in the season with what we want to do as a team may be a challenge.”
